Google I/O 2014 Web Experiment
Built as a teaser and preview for the Google I/O 2014 website, this experiment takes visitors on an interactive journey through some pivotal moments in the history of technology. Inspired by Eames "Powers of Ten" this web experiment presents the search for the Higgs Boson, building a silicon crystal, operating a neural network, connecting the world, and finally reaching out to explore the universe with the launch of the Voyager satellite.
The experiment was built entirely using 3D CSS and SVG images rather than WebGL which allowed for much broader platform support, including mobile devices. Lighting is simulated by applying a brightness filter based on the relative angle of surfaces to the viewport.
